“If you’re currently living in Victoria and driving with an overseas or interstate licence, you’ll have six months from 29 October 2019, to convert to a Victorian licence.”

“You can use your overseas licence for your first six months of living in Victoria (after that, you need to get a Victorian licence instead). ”

What does it mean for international or interstate license holders?

If you have been in Victoria State for more than 6 months, then you will have to convert your international or interstate license to Victorian driver’s License.

What is the process of converting the international or interstate license to Victorian driver’s License ?

Step 1: Check if you’re eligible

Step 2: Check your overseas license is recognised:

Now, How do you check if your license is recognised by Vicroads ?

To understand this process: All you need to do is book an appointment with Vicroads for overseas or interstate license is verification.

Hint: Please hurry as there is lot of waiting lists.

Step 3: Once your license is verified, book your L’s

This is an important step for people who have stayed more than 6 months in Victoria and driving. Only after you pass your learner’s test, you will be given a learner’s permit to drive. It means you still need a supervised driver and an L board to drive your car. 

Step 4: This is a very crucial step: You can book both driving lessons in Melbourne as well as prepare for the Hazard Perception Test:

Step 5: Once you pass your Hazard Perception Test, then book for your drive test at Vicroads.

Note: Even in drive test and till you pass your Vicroads drive test, you will have to drive on your L plate, with supervised Victorian licensed driver.
